Mayor Gary McCarthy Statement on House Passage of Heroes Act

"Without financial assistance from Congress, communities across this country face devastation. It is absolutely critical that emergency aid be provided to local governments whose first responders have been on the front lines fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Last night, the House of Representatives passed The Heroes Act to provide the emergency relief communities need to keep our nation running. I would like to thank our Congressman Paul Tonko for his strong support and advocacy on our behalf during this challenging time.

"The City of Schenectady in particular is facing significant revenue shortfalls caused by the COVID-19 pandemic due to lower sales tax collection, property tax collection, and prior year tax lien collection, as well as reduced casino license fees, and fewer sales of foreclosed property. Lost revenue threatens the critical services we provide.

"It is urgent that the Senate take up this emergency legislation. Please call the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at (202) 224-2541 and the White House at (202) 456-1111."
