Al Haqq, LLC Found Guilty of Multiple Property Code Violations
SCHENECTADY – Yesterday afternoon, Schenectady City Court Judge Robert Hoffman found Al Haqq, LLC guilty of multiple property code violations at eight properties in the City of Schenectady and imposed fines totaling $378,500. In addition to other sentences previously ordered by the court, the fines against Al Haqq, LLC and its member Ahmad Halim total $665,500.
City of Schenectady Assistant Corporation Counsel William Sanderson and Assistant Corporation Counsel Christopher Marney prosecuted the cases and proved numerous violations dating back to 2018. The property maintenance code violations related to significant exterior conditions that did not comply with the minimum requirements of New York State building code.
“The City of Schenectady will continue to take action against absentee landlords who fail to maintain their properties,” Mayor Gary McCarthy said. “These neglected and distressed properties cause safety issues for our residents and harm the quality of life and value in our neighborhoods. I thank our hardworking staff in the Buildings Department and Corporation Counsel’s Office for their dedication to these cases that made this court action possible.”
“The sentences in these cases send a strong message to irresponsible landlords in the City of Schenectady,” Corporation Counsel Andrew Koldin said after the verdicts and sentences were announced. “The City will continue to protect its citizens from landlords who neglect their properties.”
