The Department of Development is responsible for
long-range planning for the City of Schenectady, as well as
the day to day administration of various City, State and
Federally-funded programs geared toward the physical and
economic renewal of the City.

On March 24, 2008, the
Department completed a three-year effort to develop the
City’s first Comprehensive Plan since 1971. This document
will guide the city’s priorities through the year 2020.
